Education and Career Development:
At the Boys & Girls Club, we know that children’s interests dictate their investment of time and energy into skills and talents that will strengthen their ability to be productive citizens. Therefore, we do not constrain our scheduled programs to national programs. Instead, we also harness the collective skills and capabilities of our staff to introduce countless fun and engaging programs to youth on a recurrent basis. The concept is not new. It’s part of a national Boys & Girls Club initiative to engage youth in high yield learning activities that are not classroom based, but rather derive their outcomes from the piqued and sustained interest of our membership through group participation. If you visit our clubs, you’ll see that there are many different programs being offered in addition to the daily pick-up activities that keep youth engaged in positive and fun opportunities to learn and grow. All of these growth activities compliment the ongoing mentoring and guidance that is provided by our professionally trained staff. One aspect of the program that is particularly important for childhood development is the emotional skills attained through Club membership. If a child cannot work through problems with their friends, communicate effectively with their teacher, or emotionally handle getting a poor grade on a test, their ability to focus on their studies and maintain a positive outlook diminishes. Through Club participation, members receive daily affirmation and problem solving as well as emotional skill building to encourage positive interaction on the playground as well as in the classroom.
